Operating Summary and Public Record, 2025

The 2025 summary records the Laboratories' first full year with the modern public catalog, the expanded Field Array client, and the current Stratis triage pipeline operating together. The year was defined less by a single finding than by a change in scale: more of the old record became searchable, more public source records were cross-linked, and more candidates were rejected before consuming analyst time.

Research record

  • Opened the public Persistent Signal Catalog and separated literature entries from FAL-origin summaries.
  • Released the modern Night Watch instrument for public sky-position review.
  • Completed a source-elimination review on FA-0447 sufficient for an updated public abstract.
  • Moved archival replay jobs into the Field Array queue under lower utilization and stricter privacy limits.

Stewardship

No funding was accepted with publication restrictions, conclusion rights, or private pre-release review.
The Director and program heads retained full authority over catalog accession and public finding language.
Records-office staffing was expanded to reduce the backlog of uncatalogued pre-1974 holdings.

Archive and records

  • The 1966 tape recovery set moved from preservation-only to researcher-request status.
  • A second pass began on early VLF chart records where ink fade was severe enough to threaten future review.
  • The reading-room request process was revised to require report ID, docket, or accession when known.

Open operating risks

  • Volunteer-compute growth increases intake volume faster than analyst review capacity.
  • Several remote-station agreements are renewable but not permanent.
  • Older magnetic media remains the largest preservation risk in the archive.
