Facilities
Visiting & Site Access
The Calder Ridge tract is private, continuously monitored, and closed to the public.
Calder Ridge is a working research facility, not a visitor centre. Access is by prior arrangement only, and the array field and instrument enclosures are not open to unescorted visitors under any circumstances.
For researchers
Researchers wishing to consult the archive or coordinate an instrument campaign should write to the records office well in advance. Visits are pre-cleared, logged, and escorted at all times. The station provides limited on-site facilities for visiting researchers by arrangement.
- Write in advance; walk-in visits are not accommodated
- All visitors are pre-cleared and escorted
- The array field is off-limits without an escort
- Photography on the tract is restricted
Security
The Laboratories regret the formality. A site chosen for its quiet is also one where the instruments are sensitive to disturbance a casual visitor would never notice, which is why visits are escorted and routes are kept fixed.
| Area | Access |
|---|---|
| Administration building | escorted visitor access during staffed hours |
| Reading room | scheduled researcher access, materials supervised |
| Archive storage | staff only unless specific handling approval is granted |
| Array field | escort required; route and device restrictions apply |
| Instrument enclosures | authorized technical staff only |
| Residence and staff areas | closed to visitors |
Before arrival
Approved visitors receive instructions before arrival. The main gate is the only visitor entry point. The station does not accept unscheduled drop-offs, courier handoffs, filming arrivals, or contractor substitutions at the gate.
- Bring government-issued identification matching the approved visitor list.
- Leave drones, radio transmitters, and unnecessary recording devices off site unless specifically approved.
- Expect limited cellular coverage and no public Wi-Fi on the tract.
- Wear practical footwear; weather can change route access with little warning.
- Do not bring archive material, drives, or equipment unless the records office or program host requested it.
