The quiet band

A narrow region of the spectrum that goes measurably silent on a schedule the Laboratories cannot account for.

Most retained outliers involve something appearing where there should be nothing. FA-1044 is the opposite: a narrow band that, on an irregular schedule, drops measurably below the surrounding background level -- an apparent absorption rather than an emission, which is unusual enough to keep it under study.

The effect is small and would be easy to dismiss as a calibration artifact, except that it appears across independent instruments and does not follow any maintenance or interference cycle the Laboratories can find. It is held as unresolved.
